Bits and Pieces. . . .
The above picture was painted by Ken Done a modern Australian artist. We finally made the time to go to the free Art Museum. It was small but interesting. And it was free. They also had some beautiful Japanese art installations donated from their sister city in Japan.
Easter was interesting here. We were surprized to find out that most stores close down for Good Friday, some for Holy Saturday, Everyone for Easter Sunday, and most for Easter Monday. There were not many people at church on Easter Sunday because everyone goes camping for the long Easter Holiday. I guess a group of church members has been going camping together for 40 + years. More power to them. Apparently it has only been the last 7 years or so since stores were closed on Sundays. Rockhampton is a little like going back in time. We had our mission car in the shop and we couldn't pick it up right when it was done because someone parked behind our car in the garage and didn't leave anyone the key. We had to wait until he came home from fishing.
We went to a local Orchid Show that they have been having for 70 years. They were beautiful. There were winners chosen in many catagories. It was so enjoyable to see all the different varieties of orchids.I took a lot of pictures but they really don't do them justice.
Funny enough my interest in orchids came about from a fictitious detective series where the main character, Nero Wolfe charges exhorbitant fees so he can afford to raise and maintain his ten thousand orchids that he has in a greenhouse on the roof of his New York brownstone. He, Nero Wolfe, spends 4 hours each day except Sunday working with his orchids. The books talk all the time about his orchids and calls them by their latin names. Rex Stout is the author.
We still are having a bunch of baptisms. We are close to baptising a family of four from China. Our dear Sister Gao was transfered and we got a new Sister from Taiwan who also speaks Mandarin, Sister Hsiao. We also had a man whose brother is in the ward and has been trying to get him to listen to the lessons for 40 years who is anxious to be baptized.
It continues to be the humble people who are willing to listen to the gospel message.
We still sit in on a lot of lessons and cook a lot of food but we love doing it.
The kingdom is growing throuhout the world.
Beautiful painting and flowers.
